Winter is one of my favorite seasons as far as makeup trends go. I love rich, vampy shades and warm nudes. I couldn’t decide what lipstick to wear this morning (SHOCKER), so I decided to go through my top five favorites. And put them all on. And still fail to reach a decision. Whatever.
I hope I can give you a few ideas if you’re on the hunt for some new staples this season. I made a video, but if you don’t want to hear me talk check the swatches below.
On the ColourPop website Beeper is described as a greige rose. Yeah, I would agree. The greige lip trend is in full force, and I have to admit I was a little scared to try it out myself. I feel like I have such strong yellow undertones in my skin that any hint of grey would just make me look like a corpse. Beeper is a great intro shade in the greige family because, though it does still have those grey/taupe undertones, it is warm. The Ultra Matte Lip formula from ColourPop isn’t my favorite because I find that they are quite drying, but just be sure to exfoliate and moisturize your lips before applying.
Lolita is a cult favorite, but for good reason. The shade is described as a chestnut rose, which is accurate. It is the perfect “my lips but better” shade for me. Lolita is one of my favorite nudes for winter because it is a more pigmented shade. I usually only wear a light, peachy nude is I go really heavy or smoky on the eyes – otherwise I prefer a nude closer to the color of my lips. Lolita is a beautiful terra-cotta rose that would suit many different skin tones. The Kat Von D formula is excellent – definitely one of my favorites as far as liquid lipsticks go. It’s thin enough so it’s quite comfortable, but doesn’t apply streaky. Another huge plus is that when the lipstick fades after eating (always from eating), it doesn’t get patchy and is easily fixed with another layer.
YOU ALREADY KNOW. I’m obsessed with this color. See my holiday party makeup look for more pictures and for me singing this shade’s praises. It is the perfect deep red, it smells like root beer, it’s creamy and smooth, it stays put forever. It’s perfect.
OH MAN, this color is pretty. Hypno is a collaboration MannyMUA did with Ofra Cosmetics and is a stunning burgundy color. It’s a unique shade in that it is rich and deep, but slightly muted. It doesn’t lean particularly warm or cool, so it would suit many different skin tones from fair to deep. The formula on Ofra’s liquid lipsticks is one of my favorites, for sure. They’re a thicker consistency and feel quite moisturizing on the lips – a welcome change from most liquid lipsticks. If you’re a n00b when it comes to vampy shades, Hypno is a great starter shade.
Okay, this one might be a little scary to some of you. Hollywood Blvd. is a yellow-toned true brown from ColourPop. Trust me, I was scared to wear this one at first. Sure, I get chocolate all over my mouth pretty frequently but I don’t particularly want to look that way. Brown lipsticks are very in right now, along with the grungy 90’s shades. This shade is a different take on the typical vampy shade, and I’m absolutely loving it. Wear it with a deep brown smoky eye look, or minimal, matte neutrals. Again, this shade would be gorgeous on fair skin tones, and could be a really interesting nude for the deeper ladies.
Let me know what your favorite lipsticks for winter are in the comments – I’m always on the hunt for new shades to try.
